CH Mcjax Patton Pending

Welcome to Mcjax Exotics & Persians, a small in-home CFA and TICA Registered Cattery.

My love for dogs began at a very young age. Growing up, we always had a dog or two, mostly poodles as they were the only breed my mother liked.

As a young adult, I went to a local dog show and fell in love with the Yorkshire terriers. I contacted the exhibitor and expressed my desire to breed and show.

A few years later, I fell in love with the Shih Tzu and began a breeding and showing program. I enjoyed this for approximately 10 years and realized this was a hobby for those with discretionary income so I had to unfortunately stop breeding and showing. I spayed all of my girls and kept them until one by one they passed on.

To be honest, I never liked cats however a friend of mine had Persians. She dragged me to a cat show and there was a Persian exhibitor there with kittens for sale. I had to admit they were cute but I had no intention of buying one. Well, guess what, my friend talked me into buying one so off I went home with a Persian kitty. It took me some time to get used to her as I was always comparing her to my dogs. I soon learned that she was fun and I loved watching her little antics. Never being able to have just one of everything, I bought another kitten, a Himmie.

I absolutely loved him and his blue eyes. About a year later, I purchased red Persian from the same breeder. Then months later, another one. She said “Joe, you should breed as when you come over, you pick out my best kittens”. That was all I had to hear so I bought a breeding female and the rest was history.

I started breeding the tabbies and the solids but eventually fell in love with the shaded silver. This was the color that I really loved. Of course, I had no idea the challenges working with this color.

After about 2 years, I fell in love with the exotics and didn’t miss all the daily grooming of the Persians. I began showing enjoyed it immensely. My goal has always been to breed to the standard with the temperament and good health being of the utmost importance.

I have a small cattery located in the suburbs of Reading, Pennsylvania and generally breed 1 or 2 litters per year. This allows me to properly care and socialize them. My kittens must be neutered/spayed as I seldom sell to breeders preferring that they go to a loving home where they can be a cherished pet. Often I have people that come back for a second kitten which makes me happy.

Kittens remain with me until they are 3-4 months old depending on the various lifestyles of the purchasers. I always encourage them to call me with questions or concerns and provide grooming tips, etc.

Many of the purchasers have kept in contact with me for years so this is a great way of making new friends.

This is a PKD negative cattery.
